Jassette Haughton

Jassette’s down-to-earth demeanor is refreshing and endearing. When she takes to the stage, her commanding and powerful voice along with her positive energy captures her audiences and leaves them feeling rejuvenated. Her heartfelt songs of hope and healing and encouragement are in a musical package poised to play to both the church and the masses.

Raised in Jamaica, Jassette is no stranger to the stage as she has been performing since she was a teenager. Her inspirational, unique style and sound has captured audiences both in Jamaica and Canada. Jassette grew up in a Christian environment where she learned most of the gospel songs from her mother who constantly sung them. This musical setting was the ideal place for the budding singer who continues to draw from early gospel recordings for inspiration.

Prior to her surrendering her life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, Jassette was a regular performer  in the top North Coast Hotels in Jamaica and received rave reviews from the media which likened her exciting performances to Tina Turner. She teamed up and recorded with Jamaican music icons such as Papa San and the late Dennis Brown and even received an award from the then Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Honourable Michael Manley, for “Outstanding Performace” at a benefit concert dubbed ‘Night of the Stars’. Jassette also wowed the audience in 1990 when she sang at the World Health Organization concert in Montego Bay, Jamaica, where thousands of people were gathered outdoor.

In 1992, a year after her rebirth, Jassette migrated to Canada where she quickly became the lead vocalist for the gospel group Tongues of Fire. Their hard work and dedication won widespread recognition and in 1996 their first CD “Fire” received a Juno Award nomination for Gospel Album of the Year. She has sung on the same stage with such gospel greats as Shirley Caesar, Fred Hammond, Papa San, Carlene Davis, Chevelle Franklyn, Stitchie, George Banton and Marvia Providence to name a few.

In the summer of 2004, Jassette released her first recording solo CD, “I Believe”. Not completely satisfied with the quality, she remixed the album in 2006, this time adding the hit single “Days of Elijah”.This inspiring CD brings out her soulful traits and is no exception, as she combines traditional and contemporary with a jazz feel to provide a valuable resource that will encourage everyone. The title song, “I Believe” is a song of hope as Jassette’s desire is to reach people who are hurting. “It gives me much joy to bring a message of hope to them”, she says. “Having lived life’s ups and downs, I want to share with them the gracious God who has seen me through it all and I want to make a difference to their spirits and to reflect the person who never gives up,” she adds. Jassette Haughton served as one of the Praise and Worship leader at Revivaltime Tabernacle for many years and now resides in Brampton, Ontario where she is currently the Praise & Worship leader at the Praise Cathedral Worship Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
